As Windows stopping its support for Windows XP, there will
be no more technical support, security updates, bug fixes, or updates starting
this Tuesday. This sounds unimportant issue right now. However, there will be
greater issue the more you use Unsupported
Windows XP. There are important things you should do if you or still using
it, however, this will affect temporarily since sooner or later you have to
change your OS to the newer version.
Update To The Latest
Version
The first thing you need to do is updating your Unsupported Windows XP to the latest
version if you have not done any. This will give you temporary protection until
you upgrade your OS. Tell someone you know to do this as soon as you can. You
should also leave the default Internet Explorer as Microsoft does not provide
security patches anymore. Use Firefox or Chrome as they are reliable and more
secure. Chrome is reported will support XP until April 2015 while Firefox is
still unknown.
You should also have to make sure your antivirus is still
updated as it is crucial to secure your computer from virus. If you cannot find
any updates for antivirus you can still use the computer for offline purpose.
If your antivirus is not provided with update, you should scan your tablet or
smartphone for virus before sticking to your USB port to the computer. Also do this to your USB drive also
so at least your important data is still secured. You can also avoid damage to
the Unsupported Windows XP by using
the non-admin account from now on.
Upgrade Your OS
The best solution for protecting the computer is by leaving
your Unsupported Windows XP and upgrading to the newer OS. You can
choose the Windows 7 which is great for less powerful computer. Or try the windows
8 for better touch screen experience. This will require you to adapt to the new
environment but once you get used to, you will discover how this benefit you a
lot. Or you might try the open source OS like Ubuntu for free.
